Award winning, family-owned Glencairn Crystal has partnered with Glengoyne to create an incredible bespoke crystal decanter to showcase the Highland distillery’s oldest ever whisky released – Glengoyne 50 Year Old.

The whisky has been encased in a Glencairn crystal decanter that features an engraved goose emblem to represent the geese that migrate to the Glen every winter. Each solid oak and gold presentation box comes with a 25ml sample of the whisky too, so that whisky lovers purchasing a bottle can enjoy a dram without having to open their main keepsake collector item.

All 150 decanters made have been hand blown, infilled with gold by hand and have a *spun base to form a metal cradle in which the decanter rests. They have been engraved with a newly designed Glengoyne Goose as well as roman numerals for 1833 – the opening year of the distillery, and 2020 – the release year of the whisky itself.  They have each been finished by specialist jewellers with a hand cut and polished collar and stopper.

Kenny Tweeddale, Glencairn’s New Product Development Manager, commented:

“Working with Glengoyne on this project has been exciting for us, as we’ve had the chance to explore the use of gold and different metals through the creative and production processes. We are incredibly proud of the final decanter and hope whisky collectors buying a bottle can enjoy the craftsmanship within the decanter and packaging, as well as the exceptional dram it holds.”

The 50-year-old whisky has notes of Demerara sugar, walnuts, sweet pipe tobacco, red apples and cloves on the nose. The palate offers a ‘rich, spicy oak burst, then molasses, treacle and liquorice take centre stage’, followed by a long finish. The new 45.8% ABV expression joins the Highland distillery’s Fine and Rare range, alongside the new 30-year-old whisky and a 25-year-old bottling.
